David Haslam Notes

I have discovered a reference to an early music edition for six of M‘Cheyne’s Songs of Zion, by composer Frederick Shrivall.

Song 2 has been paraphrased in Dutch, but I have not yet discovered who the author was.

Song 4 is on the Internet, below the sermon found by the following link The Voice of My Beloved.

Five verses of Song 5 as “When this passing world” are in The Cyber Hymnal with music by Sir Arthur Sullivan.

Another composer who wrote music to accompany Song 5 was Bryant Edwin Wade. “When this passing World is done” was published in Chicago in 1897 by C. F. Summy Co. Information from the British Library Public Catalogue [Shelfmark: H.1187.v.(42.)]

Song 7 can also be found under the page title McCheyne’s David and was posted by Jennifer Phifer at the University of Florida.

In 1996, a choral work based upon a Dutch translation of 28 of M‘Cheyne’s poems was composed by organist Arie Loonstra under the title “Liederen Sions”, ie – “Songs of Zion”.
